Volunteers who cannot work the full five hours are encouraged to sign up and pitch in for whatever hours they are available.

Some of the Kids Camp projects for volunteers include:

  • Garden: tilling and planting
  • Trail improvement: erosion control, signage creation/installation
  • Lodge painting: pantry floor needs to be painted
  • Bridge re-build: current bridge is washed out, so we will need someone with some building and engineering skills

Kids Corporation, led by Notre Dame Alumna, Michaela Murray-Nolan, Executive Director is a tremendous resource to the inner city children of Newark.   Details about Kids Camp can be found at Kids Corp website: http://kidscorp.com/programs/camp

24th Annual Bookstore Basketball Tournament

Who:       The Notre Dame Club of Northern New Jersey

What:       24th annual Alumni Bookstore Basketball Full Court 5 on 5 Tournament

When:      Saturday, June 2nd: begin at 9 am/championship game around 12:30 pm

Where:     Volunteer Park and other designated public courts in Parsippany, NJ

Why :        Win Six Pack of Guinness championship trophy & raise funds for charity

Plus each player gets award winning commemorative Bookstore tee shirt

Plus a post tournament celebration at the Half Point or a TBD destination

To register for the tourney and/or get more details, contact Craig Lombardi at 973 570 0024 or via email at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Please advise Commissioner Lombardi by the end of May if you plan to bring a team and how many players you expect so that we can estimate the number of shirts we need, start formulating a game day schedule, and prepare enough chicken wings for the post tournament bash.

All games are 5 on 5 full court games.  Games will start at 9 am.  Teams generally play 2 or 3 games to determine seeding for the single game elimination playoffs.  The Championship Game usually ends around 12:30/1 PM.  We hire refs for the championship and semi final games; we may also hire refs for quarterfinals if enough teams sign up.  We will have backup indoor courts available in the event of rain.

Each team must have at least 1 player who is affiliated with Notre Dame and/or the Notre Dame Club of North Jersey as a student, graduate, dues paying member, or parent of a current student.  Games are 5 on 5.  Most teams have at least 1 or 2 subs.

Note:  We require just one ND affiliated person in order to attract more teams to support our charities and to sustain the energy and excitement delivered by different players over the years.  We ask that teams avoid situations where the ND affiliated person stands on the sidelines all day; in those situations, get a 2nd ND player or encourage a teammate to join the Club.

Entry fees of $20 per player plus a $35 per team fee to subsidize the cost of refs can be paid on game day or sent before the tourney to:

ND Club of North Jersey

Charities for 2012:

We have zeroed in on a couple potential charities and will select a recipient soon.  Last year we supported St. Peter’s Orphanage in Denville.

On Saturday, May 5, 2012, the Area 3 Special Olympics will host a regional Track and Field event at Hackettstown High School in order to determine which athletes qualify for the State championship meet later this summer.

Opening ceremonies begin at 9:00 AM but volunteers should arrive to register between 7:30 to 7:45 AM

The meet should conclude around 4:00 PM.

This is a great opportunity for high school aged kids.

Volunteer duties range from clocking the running races, escorting the athletes, working in the awards area or snack bar, selling souvenirs, etc. Duties will be assigned at check in, but the Special Olympic organizers are definitely seeking folks who are experienced race timers.

  • If more than one person in your family is volunteering, each person must complete this form

The address for Hackettstown High School is 701 Warren Street, Hackettstown.

Additional notes re this event:

If you have volunteered with Area 3 before, please wear your orange volunteer t-shirt.  If you have been given area 3 photo credentials, those must be worn as well. If you were not issued photo credentials, please be prepared to show (1) form of photo id upon check in.

For those of you who are new volunteers with Area 3, you will be provided with an orange volunteer t-shirt on event day.  You will also need to bring (1) form of photo id to show upon check in.

The games go on rain or shine. Please dress appropriately for outdoor weather. (Decent length shorts are okay for this event and sneakers are preferred).  There are no lockers available and neither Hackettstown High School nor SONJ Area 3 are responsible for any items left unattended.

Details on volunteer activities:
